Polymeric membrane technology

In membrane technology, this Department mainly researches and develops the fabrication, modification, and application of polymeric membrane materials. Membrane fabrication involves the development of new materials (eg., nanocomposite and nanoporous membranes) and new methods (eg., thermal-phase inversion method). And we also explore the basic theory of membrane formation.

Membrane modification that we aim to study is divided into physical and chemical modifications. Physical modification mainly includes the researches of surface coating technology and affinity between membrane layers. The chemical modification includes a chemical grafting reaction using its functional group, plasma etching, and plasma grafting techniques to modify the surface of the membrane.

Membrane applications span two areas of fine separation and biomedical applications. The fine separation processes mainly include separation procedures such as micro-filtration, ultra-filtration, nano-filtration, and pervaporation. For biomedical applications, the main researches include protein separation, anticoagulation and immobilization of DNA, drug release control, cell cultivation, and tissue regeneration.
